The Classic Kauri Collection was inspired by a timeless design made by Andrew's great, great grandfather at the end of the 19th century. The design is a true classic that looks just as good now as it did 100 years ago.

The trees originate from the long-vanished ancient Kauri forests that stood thousands of years ago and now lie beneath swamps in Northland, North Island. The Kauri has been preserved in peat swamp after an unexplained phenomenon felled the Kauri forests some 40,000 years ago. A tsunami, cyclone, or even the advent of the last Ice Age are among many theories that have been suggested.

Preserved in the swamps of the North Island, ancient Kauri is regarded as the oldest workable timber in the world. Naturally felled, they have been preserved for some 40,000 years in these timeless peat swamps.

The extraction of the logs from swamp is very demanding. Heavy machinery and skilled operators are employed to unearth and remove the logs.
